iPhoto and Elements 6.0

I'm a new MAC user. I am using trial version for Aperature and Elements 6.0.

If I use Elements to edit photos and iPhoto to organize, what happens to the original photo? I see in Aperature there are STACKS.

Also, any recommendations on good tutorial books/info for Elements?

I believe that the original photo is still available in iPhoto even if it has been edited in Elements. I recommend the book "Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac" by Barbara Brundidge.
