iPhoto 9.5.1 crashes on start after Mavericks update

I realize this is an old issue, and that's part of my problem, I have looked all over these and other forums and can't quite find my exact problem, or any posts newer than a year or more ago. Forgive me if I am breaking any forum etiquette. I only recently got around to updating to Mavericks, immediately after the update I could not open iPhoto at all. I deleted and reinstalled it twice, it's the correct one, 9.5.1, installed from the App Store, so I don't see how it could be the wrong one.. When I click on the icon OR click on my iPhoto Library directly, I get a message that says it may not be compatible with my current OS. ?? MacBook Pro early 2011. You probably have two versions of iPhoto on your Mac with the older version still being the default. When you click on iPhoto you're actually opening the older version not the new one. Apple generally will not overwrite an older version of any of its apps but instead move them to a separate folder. They have done this with Pages, Garageband, iMovie, iPhoto, and so on.

Thank you... I've looked around ... can you give me some help on finding that old version so that I can get rid of it?

i had the same problem on the Mini, so i removed both mt lion's and mac and reinstalled iPhoto from my air book, through a USB thumb drive. you need to re-start the computer after deleting the files and have the USB hooked-up, there might be an easier way, but that worked for me!
