Hi, tried a search, couldn't find anything.

New 4S screen-freeze on camera shutter, no response on any button/key. Couldn't shut it down either although it finally shut itself off. Now won't start again. Battery fully charged, no other issue.

Any ideas welcome thanks!

Press and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons for 15 seconds - does it start up?

Connect it to iTunes - does it get detected by iTunes?

If the answer to either of these is Yes then do a full backup - restore - resync and see how it does.

If either answer is No make a Genius bar appointment and take to an Apple Store.

Thanks, iTunes on my MacBook did detect it, tried the Restore (reluctantly!), although did it overnight and the computer went into sleep mode and didn't complete Restore.

Probably a good thing, because this morning the phone had switched itself on again of its own accord and it appears I haven't lost any data/settings.

I'm 3 hours from an Apple Store so I'd also booked an on-line phone chat for this morning.

Apple suggest holding both ON and HOME keys down for 10-15 seconds to see if it is resolved. Maybe a sort of 'Reset'?

Anyway, phone was already on so I will now monitor it. Apple say if it continues then they will replace, and they advise that for business phones they can express courier replacements. No idea how long that would take though.

Thanks for help..

A restore shouldn't take that long but the re-sync afterwards may take some time.

That 'reset' is exactly what I suggested
Press and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons for 15 seconds
. . . it's a 'hard reset'. It's your last option if no other buttons are working

Sorry, somehow missed your 'Reset' suggestion last night (in my rage ;-) ).

The 'Restore' via iTunes was going to take 2 hours according to the dialogue box. Went to bed and left it. I got up at 2am and it the computer was trying to 'Backup' the iPhone. I'm assuming the computer went into Sleep mode and couldn't finish the task. The phone was still not working then.

7am this morning I removed the phone from the computer and it turned itself on. No idea what happened to be honest.
