Hey everyone, I’ve got a question for the Apple users out there.
I’m mainly looking to use a tablet for note-taking and some light drawing or sketching. I’ve used Sony’s stylus on their tablets before, but I’m wondering how the Apple Pencil (especially on the iPad Air or iPad Pro) compares in terms of precision, responsiveness, and overall feel.
Is there a noticeable difference in latency or pressure sensitivity when using the Apple Pencil vs Sony’s stylus? And how does the overall experience in apps like Notes, GoodNotes, or Procreate stack up?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s used both ecosystems — is the Apple Pencil really that much better?

I had similar questions and used someone else's iPad Pro and pencil and it was quite good. My handwriting is really bad and the notes app was able to make it very legible easily without me having to erase and re-write.

I can't compare it to Sony's stylus, but generally I've found that other stylus' are purely pressure based and dependent on the capacity of the touchscreen device being used.

The Apple Pencil is far more than just a stylus and being paired with the iPad makes it that much better.

I'd recommend visiting your local Apple Store to try it out for yourself since you know how the Sony's stylus functions.

Here are two Apple videos on how to use and get best use of the Apple Pencil. This might help you. The first is for beginners, the second for others:

There's some good advice here so far. I will add one thing based upon my experience.

I don't do much drawing at all -- paper, digital, or otherwise. I picked up a third party stylus, for about one-third the price of the Apple Pencil, and it works quite well. It does not have all of the features of Apple's Pencil but given what I use it for the cheaper one meets my needs.

Beware though, not all cheaper alternatives are created equal.

I also came across a few ‘alternatives’ that looked good, but in practice worked intermittently: either they didn't support clicking. In addition, it’s also important to check compatibility with the specific iPad
