Since upgrading to iOS 8, my iPad has taken to bursting into song while asleep in my backpack – without a music app being open! This is a serious drag, since it wastes battery. Only solution is to turn iPad off entirely, which makes me go through the whole restart procedure when I want to use it again.

Anyone else run into this?

Can you describe the sounds, songs, noises you're hearing? This might help us identify the problem.

A singing iPad? I wonder if your iPad is notifying you of a phone call or iMessage with a musical ringtone? Check to see if that's what it's doing and at the same time check your iPhone.

Sorry, should have been more specific.

The iPad is dipping into imported playlists from iTunes on my Mac. I know this sounds odd, but it is as if Music were playing, only it's not open.

The Music app will, quite happily, continue playing in the background. Make sure it is paused before exiting out of the app, see if that makes a difference.

There are also innumerable radio apps that will do exactly the same thing. My preferred choice, Radium, even has a preference checkbox that specifies the connection is to be completely quit whenever I hit pause.
