I have an iPad Pro running 17.4.1 (iPad 2), I think I have the right charging cable (USB). The cable when connected starts the iPad but does not charge! I get a message saying "not charging"? Any idea what is wrong, or am I doing something wrong? This is the first time I have tried to recharge it since buying second hand?
Thank you for any advice or help.

An iPad 2 could not run 17.4.1. iPad 9 was released last year. Identify your iPad model here, Identify your iPad model - Apple Support.

We will also need to know what power adapter you are using.

iPad, at least the early ones, could not run AND charge at the same time. So a USB cable could run the iPad, but while it was running, it didn't charge.

My iPad is off, I plug my USB cable into the iPad, the iPad starts up, a message says accessory detected and asks me to authorise it by entering my start up code, then a message top right of iPad says "not charging", what am I doing wrong? I know it is a 256 meg 512 gig iPad Pro 14.

I just tried a different cable, and it seems to be charging now, sorry to have bothered you, but I am new to iPads? I appreciate you all trying to help!

Just as a matter of interest - The new charging cable took under an hour and a half to charge from 42% to 100%. I am more than happy with that!:)

That sounds like good and a good fix news and I assume that is faster than your older cable, and is the new cable from Apple or some other third-party supplier.

We find that third-party cables work better and last longer than most Apple cables that have a tendency to fall apart, especially at the ends and they seldom if ever have to bend so there is no reason for them to fall apart.

Thanks for posting your results and the solution to your problem.

Third party cable with a snap on plug to make it usable on the iPhone.

Ensure that you’re using an Apple-certified charging cable and adapter, as third-party ones can sometimes cause issues, and check the charging port on your iPad for any debris or lint that might be obstructing the connection.

As for the charger itself;
The iPad Pro 2 charger is not a specific model designation, but the iPad Pro (2nd generation) uses a 12W charger that provides a 5V output at 2.4A.
For faster charging, you can use a 20W charger, which is compatible with the iPad Pro 2nd generation and newer models. But 5 Volts and 2.4 Amps is all it can handle. The iPad like an iPhone is self regulating to a degree but it's best to stick within the advised specs.

I always say when it comes to third party chargers it's better to be underrated than overrated even if it takes a little longer to charge.
