Haven't seen anything on here about iOS 17 which was released yesterday. Of course I just had to upgrade all my devices. So far nothing earth shattering I really needed but they all upgraded smoothly.

I did know they redesigned how the call screen looked. When I received my first call, it was a surprise! It took me a minute to realize they made room for a person's picture to appear with the call. Not really appealing to me. I also do not like where the mute button is positioned. I can see me inadvertently using that!

My big dilemma is do I upgrade my husband's phone. He is technologically challenged and changes are not received well. I plan to wait for now until I am very familiar with it.

Although I would update myself Lisa, that's mostly out of curiosity and my love of new features. Really until the next macOS is released there's no need for me to do that. Lots of people I know don't update/upgrade for months after the first public release. So, I'm an early adopter and my wife usually waits till I'm satisfied the major bugs have been sorted before stepping up to a new iOS. Probably a good idea for your hubby too.

I am curious to see how others like the updates. My husband will not be updated.

Well, so far, I've downloaded iOS 17 on 2 iPhones (13 Pro & 14) and one newish iPad without any hitches. I have one older iPad to go.

There's a ton of new things in there.

For those interested, here are some excellent videos, well presented, on iOS 17:

My only "bias" in selecting these is that the presenter is English and explains things in a professional way.

So something else I new I found out today ... I swim with my Apple Watch Ultra. Starting the workout app was the same but when I was done I pressed the side dial to expel the water then swiped the screen to stop the timer and hit the X to end the work out. A screen popped up saying "Are you sure?" So I had to confirm it. Now I swim without glasses and the screen print is tiny so with a LOT of squinting I finally got it to let me agree! I am sure there is more fun to come!!!

I have increased the text size on mine to about 50%. I'm not sure about the notification you mention, I'll try it today.

I do like the changes to the crown and side buttons though. In particular the side button to access the Control Centre. Previously a swipe up from the bottom. Frequently I would accidentally open the bottom left complication by mistake.
The single press Crown function takes you straight to the Apps (list in my case) which I also like.

I know this thread was started on the topic of iOS 17 but here's a great article complete with a big illustrated map of what the buttons/gestures do in Apple Watch OS 10.

Love the diagram. It is very helpful. My only issue is I have gotten so use to the "old way" I now have to stop and fish around to get to what I want. Yes, I will get to where it is automatic again at which time they will change it - again! :ROFLMAO:. (It is the same with iOS 17 too, and for us seasoned individuals it can take us longer to adapt.)

Hi Friends-

I have not received an upgrade message to IOS 17 so far and when I look it says IOS 16.7 IOS is up to date. Does it take a while to appear?

Thanks
Allison

What year and model of iPhone do you have?

iOS 17 is compatible with iPhone XS, 11, 12 and upwards to iPhone 14.

BTW, iOS 17 also applies to compatible iPads.

Yes, but at the bottom of the update screen that tells you you are up to date, is a box informing you IOS 17 is available if you want it.

I guess there is nothing that Apple considers really critical or important with the latest iOS update, so it's just available as an option and not even a notification.

My wife would definitely not have noticed or have checked, and she won't like it if there are many changes with the new version.

Have you tried scrolling down on that page?
The notification/option to upgrade has been appearing at the bottom of that window for a while now, even when an update to the existing iOS was available. I was still on iOS16.7 when that option appeared.
I have an SE 2 and it has happily installed iOS 17.1

Hmmm... has Apple forgotten their own rules for using the GUI Interface??
There is no indication on that shot that I can see that there is something that should be read below or following...

I'm sorry, but that is sloppy programming and poor use of the GUI interface...

Oh, you're on the public beta version. I think you will need to quite the beta testing program first. As you are on iOS beta 16.7 you should receive a notification that a later version is available;
Screenshot 2023-09-25 at 10.00.24 am.png

But maybe not until the beta version you have expires.
See here; How to uninstall iOS or iPadOS beta software

Alternatively you can just turn Beta Testing off;
"For devices running iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 or later:
Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and tap Off."

Personally, I'd be tempted to just wait until your beta expires and you get the above notification.

Whatever you decide, make sure you backup the iPhone in case you need to Restore it, as described in the above Apple link. Maybe its a much simpler process than it used to be back when I was beta testing but I don't do that any more.
