Did get it to work with POP server but I don't want that.

If it's working with the POP server, then how can it be an Apple Mail iOS issue?

Understanding the difference between IMAP and POP:

  • IMAP is short for Internet Message Access Protocol. With IMAP, the message does not remain on the local device, such as a computer, it remains on the server.
  • POP3 is short for Post Office Protocol. With POP3 mail, it will connect and attempt to keep the mail located on the local device (computer or mobile).
If you already know all that, then from the above definitions you can see that Apple Mail is working as it's supposed to.

Yes, I wondered that. It did work with POP, but not with IMAP on both devices. That is why I wondered if something changed on the update to 13.7.

I can not find any setting that would cause IMAP inbox not to download messages from the Earthlink server, but there are no emails in the inbox.

It does the same thing on both IOS devices, iPhone, and iPad, both 13.7.

I send test messages to the account and they do not arrive in the IOS mail Earthlink inbox.

I use Spamsieve and that app needs IMAP to process Spam so POP is not an option.

Something is certainly amiss then. You'll just need to keep experimenting to see what works. I don't think Spamsieve has anything to do with the problem you're experiencing, but you might want to turn it off just as a brief test to see what happens.

There is an issue with Apple IOS Mail.

I just updated to IOS 14 hoping it would fix the issue. It did not.

I rebuilt everything. Earthlink account shows all mailboxes in IOS mail and sync's sent and trash mailbox and displays those emails.

It does sync the IMAP earthlink Inbox showing that I have 47 unread mails, but it will not display the emails, no mail in inbox.

Why are the emails not being displayed?

This is really annoying.

Someone needs to fix this.

Can you post a screenshot? Not a camera photo of your phone, which you have done, but a true screenshot from the phone? Also, check on the Mailboxes that you are actually looking at the Earthlink inbox, or All Inboxes. Maybe a screenshot of that page, too.

Here are some screen shots. This is really annoying. I was hoping that IOS 14 fixed this. It did not. I have tried everything.

Mail app account Earthlink counts 37 unread IMAP emails in the Inbox, but will not show them in the Earthlink IMAP inbox. As I said above if I configure the account as POP it works.
Account is good. Filed a bug report with Apple. This does the same for both iPhone and iPad. It seems like no one else is having this issue. I downloaded the Earthlink IOS app to read their emails since I can no longer read them with the Apple IOS Mail app.

However, the Mail app show emails from the Sent, Trash, IMAP Earthlink Mailboxes, so it is syncing with the IMAP servers, no Inbox emails.

No issues with the account on iMac, PowerBooks, Windows, or Android, just IOS.

I have made this a mission to fix.

I do not know what else I can do.

I even deleted the Mail app, reloaded, and configured, same result.

There has to be something causing this behavior.

What do you see if you select "All Inboxes?" That is how I see all my messages.

It shows at the bottom 47 unread, and then displays the one email that is in the iCloud mailbox, no Earthlink emails.

So it is counting 47 I assuming unread earthlink emails but not showing them.

Thanks

Have you compared the settings/preferences between iOS and macOS?

email setting preferences are basically the same for all devices, deleted the email account and added it as IMAP a bunch of times.
Pretty straight forward, the account seems to be fine in IOS devices it adds without issues. Earthlink says they have no reports of this issue but how many people still have that email provider. In my opinion it has to be apple causing the problem. Unless I have something set funny but the odds of that on both devices seems small. I have even considering wiping one of the devices to factory, but my wife doesn't like that idea.

Thanks

So has a workaround from Earthlink web mail I set mail forwarding to the icloud.com address and now the earthlink inbox emails will go into the icloud inbox mailbox. I tried it and it worked. It should not work this way. Someone needs to fix this.

That points to Earthlink. You are getting email successfully, just not from Earthlink. Try creating a dummy account with Gmail to see if you can get mail there. If that works, it's Earthlink. Period.

Yes, but Earthlink has no issues on any other platform other than IOS. There have been many complaints about mail IOS issues. I really don't know what the problem is. All of sudden this seems to just happened and it started with the lastest IOS 13 update. Hopefully, it will resolve itself and whoever caused it will fix it. Let me know if anyone has any ideas or experiences any similar issues. Thanks

iOS works for Apple mail, Exchange, gMail, Proton mail, Yahoo, pobox.com mail, many others. The fact that Earthlink apparently has an issue with iOS mail points very strongly to Earthlink not being designed properly to work with iOS, not that iOS is at fault. Apple makes the beta versions available to all developers well in advance of release of new systems so that they can make the changes they need to work on day one when it rolls out. In your circumstance, I would lean on Earthlink to get it sorted out.

Your other option is to move to a different mail host. I happen to use Pobox.com, which is not free, but which has an excellent spam filter and works flawlessly with all of my Macs and iDevices. You could try gmail, or yahoo, or any of the other mail providers as well. My daughter is on Proton mail and it works on her iDevices, so that may be worth looking at.

I also have an Earthlink email account. So I added it to my wife's iPad and it works perfectly. The Inbox is perfect, no issues.

But every time I delete her account and add it I get no emails in her Earthlink Inbox. This is so strange.

Both accounts look exactly alike, other than user name and password. Does anyone have any ideas why this happens. Perhaps the iPad is retaining some setting for her account, and the account is not getting completely removed from the iPad.

I did a search on the Earthlink home page and eventually found this article; https://support.earthlink.net/articles/email/imap-email.php
It appears Earthlink has only had IMAP services since 2019 and the instructions are voluminous to say the very least. Suggestions about try a different Port, different security settings etc. I haven't seen so many setup instructions since the early days of setting up Gmail with Apple Mail. It was during or just after this time that I abandoned Mail. I have never gone back, although Mail has improved markedly and email service providers like gmail, MS Outlook, AOL, Yahoo etc have learned how to make their services more friendly to the Apple environment. Automatic setup works pretty much flawlessly with these accounts but Earthlink's setup instructions read like something from a decade ago. I would suggest you do as they suggest and use their mobile app as you have already mentioned or do as I did a decade ago and switch to a different email client. I used Airmail for nearly 8 years until they became a subscription service and currently I use Spark.

I abandoned using my internet providers email service back in 2000. Since then, for personal emails, I have used Hotmail, then in 2006 I switched to gmail.

I am reopening this never solved issue. For the last year the trouble email account was set with email forwarding to the iCloud account, works fine all earthlink.net mail in iCloud Inbox. We bought a new iPad Pro, IOS 16, at the Apple Store and a Genius tried to help us with this issue. Added the two email earthlink.net accounts to Mac Mail on the iPad Pro.

Both email accounts configured as IMAP, both exactly same setting, 1 account perfect, emails in Earthlink Inbox, no issues. The other the same trouble account shows No Mail in it's Earthlink inbox.

Apple completely stumped, could not help with issue, did not understand how one email account perfect syncing with Inbox and the other no mail in Inbox.

Wondering if anyone has any new ideas why this is happening.

At first I made it an issue mission that I wanted to fix, but gave up trying. One of the only Apple problems that I never could solve.

This email account works fine with Earthlink Web Mail, and the Earthlink IOS app.

Well, thanks for getting back with the update. Sorry to hear you're still experiencing problems. Atleast you have a workaround.
Just doing a quick web search brings up 5 pages from Apple Discussions on the same topic. The first pertinent one I looked at showed 36 "Me Too's" so it was a common issue but there's nothing really current, although I did find a recent page with Earthlink email server settings for iPhone which suggests people may still be having some problems.

Spent the morning working with Advanced Earthlink technical support.

What I did was add a new email profile to my Earthlink Account.

Added that account to my IOS device.

And it worked perfectly, email in Inbox for that new profile no issue.

So it is just the one email profile from the Earthlink Account that will not display emails in Inbox.

The new profile works perfectly.

What would cause one email address to have Inbox issues. Something must be blocking that particular email from displaying emails.

I am still not sure if it is a Apple Issue or an Earthlink issue. The fact that two of the profiles work perfectly makes me think it is not Apple but a corrupted email profile. I am not sure how a single email can get corrupted.
