So update. I got the disk from Apple. Says on the packaging 10.6.3.
So, was Apple not informed as to the particular MBPro model you have that needed 10.6.6 as a minimum??

That's really poor if that was the case, and yes, three beeps at boot time normally indicates something wrong in the RAM department.
To double check the OS X version of the disk, you could try holding down the option key while you boot with the Install Disk inserted, and it may provide an icon with the OS X version it actually contains.
Personally, I'm surprised it booted as far as you say if it really is a 10.6.3 Install Disk.
I guess you'll be calling Apple again and I'd suggest you be VERY clear as to your Mac's specs and the existing problem(s).
Or maybe contact a local Mac tech who may have some spare RAM to try etc. etc. but you apparently don't want to do that.
Your choice and call I guess…
At least the optical drive seems to be working and without doing any blow job on it!!!
