Hello Mac-Forum members! I've been working on this problem for several days now and I've finally decided to break down and ask for some help. I'm hoping that some of you fine people can lend me a hand. Here's the situation: I am attempting a repair of a Macbook Air for a friend of mine. The Macbook originally came with OS X Lion 10.7.5. The unit was wiped at some point and the only option for recovery is internet. The user made several failed attempts and was advised that it was most likely a SSD issue and replaced the SSD. User was still unable to perform an internet recovery and thus, I have said Macbook. Now for the symptoms. On boot there is a white screen with a flashing folder and question mark (missing OS), no huge surprise since it is a brand new SSD. Holding down the Option button, or the Control + Command + R buttons bring up a selection screen for wifi network and after the credentials are entered the internet recovery begins. The status bar begins to fill and the timer starts, usually stating there is 5 minutes or so remaining. After the status bar fills and the timer counts down the screen goes white, the apple logo appears and then the spinning icon appears at the bottom. This screen stays for a few moments then there is a grey, fabric-textured screen that has no content and about 10 seconds later the unit power cycles on its own. On reboot the flashing folder with the question mark is back and the cycle continues. I have run the Apple Hardware Test several times and no problems are reported. I have spent hours and hours googling this problem and trying numerous solutions with no results. Do any of you fine people have suggestions? I'm about to be the proud owner of a very shiny shotgun target...... Thank you all in advance.
