Hi.

Are there any MacBooks with an internal cd drive available today and if so, could you provide me with a link to a seller?

Kind Regards

Anders

Welcome to our forums.

Your best bet to find a MacBook Pro with an internal CD drive is to check eBay or Craig's List. The last MacBook Pro machines to have an internal CD drive were the 2012 non retina models.

She means that the internal optical drives used by Apple were fragile and subject to failure. And once they failed it was difficult to replace them.

Nowadays, Macs and PCs no longer come with optical drives. It's best to buy an external one.

1+ for the above bolded! My two older Apple laptops came w/ no internal CD/DVD optical drives - I've used an external one for 7 years - these are now really cheap as shown below from Amazon HERE - now not sure 'why' you want an optical drive but keep in mind that the less expensive devices can handle CDs & DVDs, but not BDs; if the latter is a need, then the drives will be more costly (follow the link if needed). Dave :)

Thanks for clarifying that!

I have an external only for those very rare occasions I need them to install software on Windows (for a Parallel's install) or to play the occasional video DVD. They seem to be going the way of the dinosaur.

The amazing thing is my old Dell PC (like over 15) has the DVD burner and it still works fine or it did a couple years ago. I only turn that machine on once a year for some bird software that only works on it.

I find it handy to have a CD drive onboard to rip cds I buy to iTunes Match. Saves faffing around finding and connecting externals. My 2011 17” MBP drive hasn’t let me down…yet. And it’s still fast enough for my needs.
