Nick,

Thanks for all of your help. I don't think that it's a firmware password because it says that it's a user password when the computer is booted.

The version of os x that this computer has on it is 10.6.3. If I can get my hands on a dvd with that version on it do you think that it will work? Not the grey one, but the one with the snow leopard on it?

You said that previously that you HAVE an install disk with the "Leopard" on it. The only install DVD that had a picture of a leopard on it is OS 10.6 (a white-ish disk with a photo of a "SNOW LEOPARD" on it).

If this is the case...and if this iMac is a A1311 model...then it should be able to boot from that install DVD...assuming it is not damaged.

Nick,

Thanks again for your help. It is definitely an A1311 and I definitly do have the disc that you described, but no matter what I do I can't get it to boot from it. The only thing that comes up is the apple logo, the gear doesn't even come up when trying to boot from the cd. I ran the diagnostics and it says "No trouble found." Any other ideas?
