I have 2 Mac Pro towers that do not have Bluetooth. One has OSX 10.6.8, the other has OSX 10.11.6. We bought a Sony wireless headset that we want to work with either of these computers. What do I need? Is there a card that needs to be installed into the system?

A Google search using various wording has yielded articles about how to fix Bluetooth that is already installed on a Mac. I did all that research before attempting this post. I also searched eBay. Lots of Bluetooth items, i.e. keyboards/mice, I can use with Bluetooth already installed on the Mac, but I'm confused about some of the stuff. I'm assuming I need a card installed in my Mac, but having trouble finding it. Help?

Since neither of your Mac Pro machines have BT built in, you will need an add on card. A Google search brings up lots of choices:

Did you check out all those cards that the Google search shows? Granted, some of them are quite expensive but you need to look over all of them and choose one that will work with your model Mac Pro.

Ebay is usually a good place to pick one up without spending too much money. You can also ask questions of the sellers.

Another good place to search and ask is Mac Sales. www.macsales.com They're Mac specialists and can probably suggest an add on card for you. Good luck and let us know what you came up with.

Correct, you need a card to be installed in your Mac Pro that will provide the Bluetooth functionality. The link I provided had a few of those cards and required specific versions of macOS and above, so be mindful of that sine you do have a machine that is running an older version of macOS.

Ok, so, I know a lot of things about some things and a few things about a lot of things, which is to say... Airport card? I bought one and never installed it. Is the Airport card another name for Bluetooth???

I believe the Airport card is for WiFi, though it does come bundled with Bluetooth as the Wireless card. Can you provide the specifics (model #, etc.) for the card you have and we can tell you more.

What about this? A Bluetooth dongle? Would that connect the Sony headset to the Mac?

At the moment, I can't find the card. I never got around to installing it and put it away.... somewhere. Have moved and some stuff that was supposed to come here went into storage. I'm lost. I know what I have, but it's buried somewhere in storage. <sigh>

This dongle will likely work for the Mac Pro running 10.11, but not the one on Snow Leopard 10.6, since the dongle requires Lion 10.7 as the minimum OS.
