Can't you do it in "Energy Saver" in "System Preferences"...by setting the "computer sleep" slider to "never".

Nick: He may be referring to the sleep function when you close the lid. Insomniax would prevent the machine from sleeping even when the lid is closed. Looks like it's going to need an update in order to work with SL.

Regards.

Thanks for mentioning that possibility.

I have heard of Insomniax before...and thought to myself..."someone wouldn't develop a program that would exactly duplicate what the OS already does...and a user wouldn't buy this program if it didn't have an added benefit."

With as warm/hot as laptops run these days...I think that I would not want to close my laptop display (and not allow the computer to go to sleep)...for fear the heat may cause some sort of display damage. Yeah...not as much heat comes from the keyboard area...but I would rather not take the chance.

I'm probably being overly cautious. Thanks again,

- Nick

caffeine and sleepless

caffeine is a no go...but sleepless appeared to work as expected...just a nagging screen that pops up to buy it every 10 min unless you purchase.

Good question...the Snow Leopard compatibility list doesn't list any version numbers...although it does say that it's compatible.

This is a very good point and should be kept in mind. The issue I have is that I work in a data center where I constantly move from area to area.... it makes life a **** of a lot easier if I can close the lid to carry while I'm moving to another area but if the computer automatically sleeps when you close the lid then you lose all chat sessions, active SSH sessions, etc which makes live even more ****.

Does Rosetta have anything to do with InsomniaX running in Snow Leopard? I'm having issues with an HP Printer since the upgrade and in reinstalling the driver/software it said that it needed Rosetta to function. I told it to install but then that failed. So far I'm not all that happy with my upgrade to SL :(

On a side note, I have been monitoring CPU and HDD temps while using insomnia. I see no increases in temps. After opening the lid (while using insomniax) CPU seems to always be between 49* and 55*, while HDD is right around 35*. Granted, I am not running anything intensive...just a couple downloads and messengers.

Id venture to say that it may be a tad bit warmer when running intensive programs, such as video encoding.

Hope this helps.
