Hey guys,

I had a similar problem with an older Macbook I had and now my wife's macbook is acting up. Constant freeze's to a grey screen prompting a restart of just a hard freeze where the machine will restart by itself.

Here is the error report, if someone can make sense out of this it would be greatly appreciated.

If we can't get this one fixed we agreed we would take it to the range and put some holes in it with the old reliable M82.

Do you have the original install media for her MacBook? Boot the machine with the original install media. Instead of going through the OS X installation process, escape out of that and run the Apple Hardware Test. It may be the hard drive acting up or even a flakey memory module. Freeze ups are usually caused by defective hardware although it can sometimes be caused by software. Run the hardware test and get back to us.

Regards.

Thanks chscag.

Ran the "quick" test and came up with nothing. Currently running the extended tests, hopefully something will show up.

Extended test rand twice with no results.

Called apple they suggested trying an archive and reinstall.

While performing the reinstall the machine froze to a grey screen. Held down to power button to restart and when it booted up everything was gone, no OS, no nothing.

Took it to the apple store this morning and everyone there agreed it was either the HD, logic board or both.

Needless to say I am pretty ******. This is the second macbook we have owned that has taken a complete dump on us. As much as I hate going back to a windoze machine I don't think I am willing to make another 1K plus investment with apple.

Sorry to hear the bad news. It seems whenever something like that happens, the techs at Apple diagnose it as a bad logic board. I'm beginning to wonder how many logic boards have been swapped out only to find out later that it was bad memory or an intermittent hard drive?

Anyway, I certainly hope your MacBook is covered by Apple care. Changing out the logic board can get very expensive. And don't give up on Apple yet. I have a good friend who spent over $1000 on a Sony notebook and has had nothing but trouble with it. He just took it into the Sony depot in Dallas to have a new display installed. :Angry-Tongue:

Regards.
