Inadvertently deleted messages

I have inadvertently deleted messages from one sender. Can they be recovered? These are in the iMessage/text message app.

There is no such heading on my iPhone and on my iMac Recently Deleted is 'greyed'

I think that that is exactly what I did. I had intended to delete a folder containing verification codes and must have deleted another folder inadvertently.

Open messages on your Mac then under view see recently deleted.
