• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Once I imported all the clips and created a movie, what is the format? Is it Quicktime? What do I have to do in order to watch it on a regular DVD player? Thanks for any suggestions.

If you export it you can choose to export it for iDVD or quicktime or back to your camera. If you export it to quicktime then convert it to an avi file then you will be able to watch it. I'm pretty sure. And when the clips are in iMovie they are in a DV Stream format.

Thanks for explaining how it works. I will try to save the movie as avi file and experiment with iDVD.

To Export it, click on 'Share' at the top, then pick what you want to share it too. iDVD will work best for a regular DVD player, but you may need to mess with it a bit if you haven't used it before, just to get used to setting up the menus and all.

To Export it to .avi, select to share to Quicktime, then in the dropdown menu that comes up select Expert Settings.

Click the Share button, and it will ask for a filename and location to save it too, then just below that in the same window, you can select what format to save it as...AVI should be in the list, you can also click the options button after that to set Screen resolution, audio, etc.

Best,

Brian
