• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

How do I change the file location for iMovie? I would like to save all files to my external HD.

Have to assume you are talking about iMovie 08, since the older ones have self contained project files. The only thing that natively can be saved to an external drive is the imported content which normally is placed within your Movies folder in another folder called "iMovie Events".

In the "Event Library" pane you should see another drive when connecting an external drive. If not then try creating a folder, at the top level only, named 'iMovie Events'.

Once iMovie is aware of both drives, you can drag the content between them within the iMovie "Event Library" pane. Simply click and drag an event to the external drive name by placing the dragged content on to the drive name.

Thanks for the response. I am using iMovie 08 and I am trying to substitute the Movies/iMovie Events folder with a folder in my external hard drive as a default. The event library section shows the drive with an exclamation point over it, and even if I could click in drag, it would only store it in the HD and not in a file within the HD.

I'm not sure why you'd have an exclamation mark on an attached external drive. Can you drag-and-drop files to and from it using the Finder? If not, that sounds like a new drive formatted for a Windows box.

That was the problem, I reformatted my western digital HD. It came defaulted as DOS. This will allow my to click and drag. Its strange how I did not encounter any other problems before. Thanks xstep.
