image too large for screen

For some reason, my 20" imac running snow leopard has a desktop image that is about 2" wider than the screen. it is not a new machine, but this just happened today. How do I tell the computer to match the screen size with the image?

If you're referring to the wallpaper, simply select the "Fill Screen" option just above where you select your wallpaper (System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver).
