IMac Yosemite start up

21" iMac, Yosemite, at loading, chime, logo, loading starts, screen goes black with cursor still active.
Help please.

Try booting in safe mode. Then do a reinstall of Yosemite.

Almost startup then black screen.

I have a 21" iMac with Yosemite installed. When it starts, there is chime,logo and loading bar. It loads slowly and about one third in, the screen goes to dark blue or black. The cursor still functions. I have reset pram, gone through permissions, tried a soft start, and reloaded Yosemite. It still acts the same
