I've recently bought a brand new 2014 iMac and I was wondering how could I transfer my files from my old iMac onto this new one. I do have quite some complications tho. For example, my old iMac got graphical issues and I have no access into any of the applications or essentially the "home screen" of the Mac. The Mac just boots the apple logo and freezes. So I was wondering with no access into any of the applications or anything like that, is there still a way I could transfer my data from the old iMac into the new one just from the boot up screen? (Also I dont have a firewire or thunderbolt, but Ive heard transfers can be done with a ethernet cable? If so, could someone please explain that to me

If you can not access the hard drive, then transferring data by ethernet or any other method is not going to work. Sometimes a failed hard drive can be repaired via software but the repairs may wind up costing you more than a new hard drive. The moral of the story here is without a backup your data may be gone for good.
