screen was covered in Vertical Green lines that are full of pixels, moving almost like static.

It sounds quite pretty, and maybe just some Christmas lighting decoration or even a simulated Northern Light display, whatever iMac model it might be. And that info could help. ;)

But more likely a goofy graphics card. :(
