imac help required!!

Morning all,

I am a very new MAC user and bought an imac off ebay which i collected yesterday.

When i got it home i started to worry that it may be stolen so phoned the police etc and they said everything was fine.

However, after updating it all this morning, i was connected to my broadband and there was another guest account that had connected to my MAC called "Thomson".

I have tried without success to remove this Guest connection but am really struggling.

Can anyone help me?

Is there anything else i should watch for on it for signs of someone spying?

Thanks in advance for your help, i am rather paranoid right now!!

Any reason why you thought it was stolen? And what do you mean about someone spying on you???

Your best bet would be to put in the system DVD, hold down C when starting up and erase and install OS X from scratch.

My reason for suspecting it was that it has a very large scuff mark on the top of the machine, like someone has scratched out a serial number or something, im probably being very paranoid.

However, the spying issue is this guest that has logged on called "Thomson". I just dont know where it has come from and that is why i worry - i need to get rid of it.

Try doing as Alexis saied. reinstall Mac os X and see if it works.

Is it possible that 'Thompson' is one of your neighbours using your internet connection. You have secured your network, haven't you. (I'm speaking of someone who did this for a week when I first got my imac and before Amazon had delivered my router - my Apple found the open network and just connected!)
