thanks! i purchased the original restore CD's, and a 9.0.4 install disc, I think mine may be an upgrade.

i got the discs today, and still the same problem! If i put in the install cd, the exact samet thing happens. it still says that the firmware is out of date, and won't install! arg

Ok,Are you sure that in the firmwear update window you are picking the right destination for the update, theres a button that says switch, click on it until in says Mac Hard Drive right above the button. If you never get 'Mac Hard Drive" then the machine is not finding the hard drive,go to drive set up and mount the HD, If the hard drive is the one you made with system on it,there should be an icon on the desktop when you boot off the CD.

ummmm no. i dont think i was clear enough on this. when i click on the update firmware icon in the extras folder, i get no options, what so ever. just a set of instructions, and the shutdown, and print button. if you click the shutdwon, it gives the system folder error. no where, is there a place to say where the installation should go. there are no options whatsoever. thanks for the help so far though!

If you just close the update window what happens? Did you start with the HD you made on another Mac with the system dics,is the HD icon on the desktop under the CD icon? Hey dude I've got three Imac ,totally taken them apart before and never had this kinda problem,Im stumped.

Did you use the Imac CD you got and try to do an install. Just click through the firmwear up date and open the Install OS window. What happens? Hear I know theres a switch dics button, choose Hard Drive not CD volume.

FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! STUPID MISTAKE! (so sorry bout this) I forgot to mention that a while ago i put in a bigger HD, apparently, this HD wasn't accepted by the imac. It showed up as Macintosh HD on the desktop when i booted, but it just didn't work. i put the factory HD back in, which i installed 9 on from a different computer a while ago (i forgot about this), and it booted right away! i then updated the firmware succesfully, and now am running 9.2 from the updates. thanks for your help!!!
