Hi, I'm attempting to perform a full restore from time machine on imac i7 using SL. After 14 hrs it says that it is 20.4% complete but for the last 3 of those hours it has been stuck there and the "time remaining" keeps increasing. Is this normal? I'll admit that the restore is about 900gb, with numerous complex programs, and only using USB. Should I expect a full restore under these conditions to take 3 full days? Could I expect it to accelerate later? Or is the full restore hanging?

Thanks.

900 GB from a USB connection is going to take a very long time to restore not withstanding the complexity of the program files. I would imagine you're looking at 24 hours or more. Even with FW 800 that much data is going to take quite some time to restore.

I remember trying to restore around 1 TB of data from a set of very fast SCSI DAT drives to a small mainframe (IBM) took all day to do. Not fun at all. :(

thanks chscag. I think in this case the problem is turning out to be much larger (and the restore had already been going 16 hours but was stuck on 20.4% though time remaining was at 65 hrs and increasing). I tried to verify / repair both the HD and external but kept getting error messages. So I just dropped the mac off for a professional servicing. Thanks again.
