iMac Audio lag

I have a 2013 iMac 21" 2.7ghz, and whilst watching media files/videos i am experiencing audio lag. I first noticed this through third party bluetooth headphones, then noticed it with the built in speakers. This happens when playing any kind of file, including you tube videos.
Any idea as to why i am experiencing this problem?

Grab a video file from the internet and play it locally on the machine and see if you notice the lag there. If the lag is only present with Internet video, it shouldn't happen all the time, but depends on how the video was created it might have lag in it..

Depending on the age of the video, I've found a bunch of old videos on Youtube do have lag on them..

I get audio lag with files from anywhere.I have just installed the OS X 10.10.2 update that fixes certain audio visual issues. Hopefully this solves it.
