I currently own my first and only mac which is the 21.5 inch 2.7 GHz quad core intel processor with 4 GB of ram. (It's basically the newest 21.5 inch iMac).

I got this machine in August and im loving macs.

My only problem is power. I frequently run Cinema 4D, after effects, premiere pro, etc. on a dual display setup.

Is there a cheap/easy way to upgrade? Do i already have enough power? I would obviously love to have the newest MacPro available but the price is a bit of an issue.

thanks

When you say your problem is power - how does that show? Does the system just slow down and takes more time to respond?

When you have all your apps running - try opening "Activity Monitor" and towards the bottom click: System Memory. How much green/free space do you have? If that's very low (somewhere in the 300mb and less) you can upgrade RAM to 8GB which should help tremendously.

I do think ram is the problem. Do you know of a recommended site to buy ram? Having an imac i have two 2 GB chips. Should i buy two four GB chips? two more 2 gb chips?

Thanks a lot.

thanks for the reply. How should i arrange the ram? i heard this makes a difference as its better to have (symmetrical?) ram. Meaning since i have two 2 GB chips already would it be better to get 2 more 2 GB chips or to get one 4 GB chip or 2 4GB chips etc?

Thanks a bundle, and yeah, im a noob :p

I actually ordered the 8 GB set from Crucial. Thanks for the Tip.

EDIT: Ram is cheap now a days :)
