I'm concerned about a buddy of mine... I've found a pill with white powder incased by a clear capsule. It has no numbers, and I found it in his living space... It looks generic, and over the counter but im not sure... I'd rather not ask him for certain reasons, so any help would be appreciated... I'm thinking it's a vitamin but I want to be sure... I'll post a photo later if you think it would help!

Just by looking at it no-one will be able to answer it. I suggest you take it to a drug store and get it analysed if you're really really worried.

That's probably a good idea. I'm not to worried, as she's really careful with pills... It looks like a dietary supplement actually. I'll ask a pharmacist if no one can take a guess. :p

I think a photo would be a huge help.. "white powder incased by a clear capsule" could be anything.

I'm not sure a photo will really help all that much. A clear capsule with white powder inside will look like ...well, a clear capsule with white powder inside! The photo won't help much unless the capsule is marked, which you say it isn't.

Might I suggest that you just ask him?

If it has NO markings... it's probably not a prescription drug, but yes, a picture would help.

I actually do not think that is the case many people can look at a pill and say what it is instantly... for example my dad (who is a doctor) knows what all medication looks like.

If it is a capsule, my first guess would be an antibiotic. Legal narcotics usually come as tablets, and always (at least in the U.S.) have ID numbers and/or letters. Vitamins never come as true capsules, they may have that shape, but they are solid.

even an anti-biotic would be marked though, no?

my guess is supplement.

what is your concern though? that it's illegal? how much do you like this guy? and how much do you want to protect yourself? you could always bring it to the police. ;)

oh, wait... for some reason i thought you were roomates.

ditch it and leave him alone. if he starts behaving differently then bring it up that way, don't behave like his mom or the cops and confront him with something you found in his space.

Yes, it should be. But because of the material of the capsule, the printed marks may wash out.

Unless you have a strong base to sugest he is using something illegal, i would suggest you to forget about it, it could be nothing, it could be big problems. If there is a reason to suspect something, talk to him. If you just take the capsule to analysis and if the results are, well, bad, it means the pharmacy/laboratory may need to contact the police.

Well, it did seem a bit over the counter, so no real harm there... I was pretty much guessing it was just a metabolism booster anyway... Thanks for the input guys.

it has to be over-the-counter, all prescription medications in the US have an identifying characteristic to them, which is usually a printed code + shape + color. Herbal remedies, diet pills, vitamins usually don't have any imprints and that is because the FDA doesn't regulate those industries, so THAT pill could really be anything!

hope that helps,
josh

if u took that pill to my pharmacy, id repeat what i just typed above :bone:
