Icons for New Posts vs Hot Thread with No New Posts

I searched for a thread about this already in here and didn't see one, so my question is about the post icons. Is it just me, or do the icons for New Posts vs Hot Thread with No New Posts look exactly the same? Both show up as a red 'feather' for lack of knowing what it actually is. An apple leaf maybe? =)

Anyways, I just wanted to know if I was missing some subtle way of telling them apart, or if there was a way to change them (in my profile or otherwise) so that they actually stood apart from each other.
