Hey I have a question that has been bothering me , and a video on engadget just brought it to a head .

Has anyone here used the app " Classics " ? Its a book app for the iPhone and well I am wondering if Apple bought the UI from them or just took it . The iBook UI is exactly like the one from the app that I have been using for 18 months , and over at engadget they just called it an iBook look alike!

I mean from the video on apple its the same right down to the shelf and book marks. I am really hoping Apple didnt just pull a big brother move ala MS and just say give me.

Just some thoughts

I've been looking for the iBookstore app and it's not to be found either.
There is an app named that in the app store already which is really just a link to a book store and their inventory of paper books.

When you think about it though, what else are they going to do?

A book shelf is a book shelf.

You could say they all copied Delicious Library and they copied...

Wont take long ill bet. It is going to be really cool just to have it all right there.
I have really enjoyed the classics app . Guess I have read 10 or 12 books on it just a half hour ( lunch) at a time. Add to that the ability ( we hope ) to subscribe to our beloved periodicals right on the couch ...well I for one cant wait.

Sorry, but Apple no more stole the Classics interface than Classics stole the Delicious Library interface than DL stole the whole idea from Ikea.

"Bookshelf to hold books" is not a patentable concept.

But just to make this more clear, let's have a look at Classics (which I love, btw) Classics2Go (another similar app) and iBooks:

Similar? Yes.
Stolen? No.

and to that ill offer this :washingtonpost.com

And while I of course know that a book shelf is not a" patentable concept "I still maintain that a little credit would have been nice. Just my opinion.

With respect: to whom should Apple give a little credit?

iBooks looks to my eyes much more like Delicious Library than Classics. Actually iBooks looks more like the actual physical bookshelf I have from Office Depot than either one.

I think the phrase "great minds think alike" applies here, particularly when the metaphor is as obvious as "a bookshelf." Nobody owes anybody anything IMHO.

Its not really the bookshelf I was talking about but the total UI . Anyway I do see your point .
