I read that a firmware update to my G4 450 AGP(non-gigE) box would increase stability. But how can I find out what my firmware revistion is? I'm a bit of a Mac newb(only 6 months old), so be gentle. ;)

Firmware

Use software update. I believe on your 450 their is a Hard drive update available. I recommend using software update weekly to keep up to date. Good luck!

Hard drive update? I'm not using the dreaded Deathstar IBM drives, I have a 40gig Seagate, and a 120 gig Western Digital Special Edition. I was meaning the firmware for my logic board, or am I wrong? Do you know how to show what the logiv board firmware version is?

This is an update, so other may gain some insight into a badly unstable computer, and how one way it can be fixed.

I looked in the system profiler to see what my boot rom image number was, it said "f1", that was all, just f1. I knew that something was weird. So I looked on Apples site for a firmware download, and found "4.28f1". Booted into OS 9.2.2 and ran the update, now my system has been up for almost three days. It used to crash every day, sometimes 3 times a day. I'm glad it's better now, cuz I love my G4. :D
