I phone 4 update problems. HELP

I bought my first I phone a few months ago ( i phone 4). I have NEVER been able to update it seeing as I always get error 3259,and the one about server issues not sure what it says seeing as I have only had that one today probably due to the ios 5 update being released. Im not sure how long it normal takes for an iphone to update but it always ranges from 3 -20 hours. and it never last long before i get error 3259. any suggestions will help.. thanks in advance.
