When I’m playing mp4 video files to the Apple TV 4 from my Mac book pro 2013 or 2018 after 10 min. or so the connection drops off and I have restart the Apple TV app to reestablish the connection. But it seems if I am busy on the finder with other screens, with airplay still active, the connection does not drop off. Hence my hunch that energy saver is responsible. Anyone else have this happen or know how to correct it?

Take a screen shot of your Energy Saver settings and post it here, that way we can compare.

Rod, thank you Sorry for the delay in responding. these Macs are using Bur Sur and I don't see the Energy Saver pref. I think the battery pref. does the same thing
I have just set the it to turn off the display after 1 hour but have not had the chance to test it yet. I'll get back with the result soon. Just to hectic here.

Yes, the settings pane differs from one macOS to another but the preferences/settings remain much the same.
In your case I would try ticking the box for, "Prevent the computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off."
I usually tick the next two options as well, the last one is optional depending on your device and how you use it but as mine is normally plugged into AC power it's unnecessary for me.

Yes I am using it on battery power when it happens. It seems what you suggested has worked. I had a chance to try it last night and it played for twenty minutes without dropping out. Thanks for the help with this.
