Today our local Apple store had iMac 24 M1 in stock. So I picked up this model:

I didn't get any extras, so the price was $1499 plus tax. I got the silver color, but they also had other colors.

I transferred my files from my 2019 iMac which I will get $480 dollars as a trade in, I have 14 days to return it to Apple.

I love the new iMac. It's incredibly fast. So far everything is working perfectly.

When you get your new iMac, don't forget to pickup a few USB-C to USB Adapters, they cost $19.00 each.

Congrats I will be ordering a plain old sliver M1, 16GB/500GB but they are not available for delivery until mid July Down Under and I anticipate this will end up late Juiy.

Can't wait for the 30" model or whatever whenever.

That's me too Harry. I'm used to my 27" iMac screen and don't want to go to a smaller display. I just hope the newer larger iMac doesn't break my budget. :)

Wow...super nice Andy...a BIG congrats!:)

Also great to hear things are super fast. In case you didn't know...many apps have not been re-written yet for the Apple M1 CPU's...thus any older "Intel native" apps are running via an Apple emulation app called "Rosetta 2". FYI..."Rosetta 1" was the emulation app Apple used back in 2005/2006 timeframe...when Apple switched from "PowerPC" CPU's to Intel CPU's.

Point being...when all apps have been rewritten for the Apple "M1 & upcoming" CPU's...things should get even better/faster!:)

One important app is Photoshop. It's finally fast again! Another Adobe product I use is Dreamweaver and although it's running in emulation mode, it's faster than it was on my previous iMac running the Intel processor.

The most important fix is in Finder, files which are in the directory all show, in my previous iMac new files didn't always show and that was a disaster.

That's great to hear...considering the previous iMac was a 2019 model (just 2 years old).:)

It's sounding like the Apple 14 day return policy won't be necessary!;)

No I needed it to be able to transfer my files. By the way the best way is to connect an external drive and copy folders to it, then connect to the new M1 and copy back.

I think in most/all cases...when purchasing a new computer Apple will transfer everything for free. But can understand if a user prefers to do this themselves.:)

I prefer to install apps as new, that way you know things will work correctly. Most of my data is now stored online.

can the RAM be upgraded in all models and if so what is the max?

Yes you can purchase with additional ram, but I opted to not add ram and I suspect most would not need it.

RAM can be upgraded at purchase time, not after. It's not removable in any practical sense. The M1 chip is a System-on-a-chip, which means RAM and Storage and scratch and any other storage is all soldered into the SoC and not changeable. One company did manage to unsolder the storage from an M1, but pretty much destroyed the Mac in the process. So, get what you think you need when you buy it, there's no way to change it after that.

Or maximize your $$ an buy a USB-C / Thunderbolt dock. Pick one with the kinds of ports you're likely to need (e.g., a bunch of the flat USB plugs, HDMI, extra USB-C, SD-card reader, etc.).

And - this doesn't apply to the iMac crowd, but those with Mac laptops who buy those docks that plug into the two thunderbolt ports and "mate" to the side? Bad idea if you use a laptop protector case/skin. The darn thing won't fit, obviously. Better to get a dock with a cord on it ;)

Agree 100%. I've always been a hard-shell sort of person with my MacBook Pro's...and I saw right away with the MacBook/MacBook Pro docks that have two male connectors on the side:

...no way they were going to engage the UBS-C ports properly with a hard shell case in place. I definitely went with a USB-C corded dock.:)

For example something like this:

Nice...congrats! Takes a little bit of the sting out of the purchase of the new iMac.:)
