I just got a new 20" iMac, and moved all data/applications etc to it using firewire from my old iMac. The new iMac chimes, like an alert sound, every 5 minutes since I turned it on three days ago. I don't use office alert, entourage, iCal or anything that would want to remind me of anything. I can't find anything out of the ordinary in the activity monitor or command line top. I went as far as deleting office alert from my computer (because everyone says thats what it must be). Any thoughts or conjecture out there? Thanks for any help (its driving me nuts).

You need to examine everything you moved from your old iMac to the new one and try to determine which application has an option to "remind" or sound an alert. I have no idea what applications you're using so I can't offer advice as to which one if any is causing the chime every 5 minutes.

What you can try (and it's going to get a bit involved) is to delete a suspect application's "plist" and possibly "db" file to stop the chiming.

The plist and db files which are associated with the applications you're using are located - for the most part - in:

/users/your name/library/preferences

Be sure to first make a backup copy of any files you plan on deleting before you delete them.

Regards.
