By the way, if you look at the update that Apple released (HP driver software version 5.1) it basically installed all the PPDs but very likely with the new certificate. I decided to keep the Gutenprint drivers instead of the HP ones.

I hearing from people that they woke up today, and tried their HP printer, and that it now works. Likely Apple pushed out an update to folks that fixed the problem.

According to several users, their success has been varied, but some success with this:

found a fix for the printer problem: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

And if the printing was fixed, It may not be the same for any scanning.

So still a bit of a mixup for some.

You may have to remove all the old PPDs in order to install the newer signed software pushed out by Apple yesterday afternoon.

Follow the directions I gave in Post reply #17.

Thanks for the info and link, I downloaded the HP drivers and can now print again. However, it is surprising that the update did not automatically get come via the System Preferences (which I have switched to auto updates) and even trying manually many times over a couple days received messages saying I was up to date.
My only other observations are from my first post that once I discovered the problem I found I was able to print on my HP LaserJet 1200 printer using a Windows OS laptop therefore assumed the issue to be with Apple only.
Thanks everyone for the continued support and advice.

The updates in question occur in the background and are generally unnoticed by the users. This time the update first broke the printing, then the second update restored it. I took the path of resetting the print system, deleting all of the HP associated files, then reinstalling the printer from scratch, after HP fixed the issue.

That post is from 2017 and contains the revoked certificates.

The actual post is recent, but who cares if their suggestion and the link works as it has apparently done so for some.

Charlie, I didn't get 5.1, but 4.4. It works, so no big deal, but not everyone might get 5.1

I find that a bit strange since version 5.1 includes the PPDs for a wide range of HP printers and also the various languages (English, French, Spanish, etc). But if you're happy with 4.4 and your HP is working okay, then it's best to leave it be.

If it ain't broke..... :)

This is a known issue to Apple and HP. I had the same problem a few days ago, running Catalina on a 2013 MacBook Air. I dumped out all HP files via Clean My Mac X. I run Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac and sent them some screen shots. This is what they wrote back:

"Hello,
It appears that HP unintentionally revoked credentials on some older versions of Mac drivers. However if you have removed the file it is possible that now you won't be able to print, thus, it is recommended to reinstall the software in order to be able to print again.

You may read more about this notification on the article below: https://www.theregister.com/2020/10/23/hp_printer_macos/

After I dumped my HP files, I went to HP support website and reinstalled the driver. I got one more warning but haven't had a problem since.

I had the same problem. I uninstalled the printers and then added them again after deleting the hp folder from the printers/folder. when i added the printers I was told there were files missing needed to install the printers and did I want Apple to install the software. I replied yes and the printers were added and now everything is fine.

I am getting a message when trying to print that says:
"hppostprocessing.bundle will damage your computer", followed by a message - report malware to Apple to protect others. If I click OK, the error message disappears and no printing is carried out.
If I connect a Windows OS laptop to the same printer, I can print the document with no problem.
(The printer is a HP laser jet 1200)
Does this suggest this is a Mac issue? View attachment 32699
I deleted the printer form System Preferences. Then I went to these two websites and from one I downloaded new drivers and it worked again. Sorry I don't recall which website had the driver for my commuter and printer and OS.

Had the same problem, uninstalled printer, unplugged it, restarted Mac, reinstalled printer, reinserted Wi-fi code and back up and running. Hope that helps.
