How to set up Repeater?

I want to set up my access point as the range extender universal repeater. I guess I'm doing all the things right as the device recognizes and connects the network whose range I want to extend...but whenever I assign static IP to the device, the AP's web interface refuses to load and am not able to connect to the network!!! Any idea why's this happening!!! As far as assigning static IPs are concerned, I'm pretty much sure that I'm assigning them right. There's just some thing else wrong with it!!!

You should probably start by telling us what exact hardware you are dealing with here.
