how to remove adobe air?

Im told I can use the uninstaller in my utilities folder but I don't have one there. guess I already removed the uninstaller program. but I got parts of adobe air on the mac. not sure if its needed. but its got security issues and I'll like all of adobe air removed if its not needed.

Adobe Air is needed for some applications. For example, the Zinio Magazine Digital subscription reader needs Adobe Air in order to work properly. Make sure you do not have apps that rely on it before removing it.

adobe air sdk. still cant uninstall this. anyone know where I can find the folder and files to manually remove it? I've tried everything. nothing works. the adobe air uninstaller wont even remove it.

On my iMac, if I go into Applications > Utilities I find Adobe AIR Uninstaller app.

Obviously I haven't tried this as I want to keep it!

If that doesn't work, maybe, and I stress maybe, its being linked to Zinio Reader app means that you have to uninstall or trash Zinio Reader?

I tried the terminal command in that link. no luck with that or the Adobe AIR Uninstaller app.

If I knew where the files were I would try removing them manually. I've used macs a long time, this is the first time I've had trouble uninstalling a program.

You could download and use Find Any File (FAF) and search for possible related files with the name "air" and "adobe".

Have a current backup you can use in case you goof up.

Note: As already mentioned and a web help page says:

If you have it it's because something you downloaded required it.

PS: Is it really causing any problems having it installed???

flash, java, silverlight, Javascript. these are things the bad guy hackers exploit to gain access to systems. so I'm removing them completely, thereby reducing the attack surface. they cant exploit them if their not on my mac. Id like to remove Javascript too but many websites (like Facebook) won't work without Javascript so I have to leave Javascript installed.

flash, java, silverlight, and Javascript are also used to track us online. I have good backups in case I need to install them again.

java is not easy to remove as I'm finding out. I can move to the trash but the plugin is protected/in use so I cant delete it. oh well I'll try another time. the mac use to be easy. no so anymore. guess im getting old and dont' have the patience for this stuff Like I use too. lol

You can reduce tracking with Ghostery. You can set it to block EVERYTHING and it will do pretty well. As for getting to a place where nothing can track you, you will have to leave the Internet for that. If you get in, you will be tracked.

I was going to add for such paranoia, to just disable all the stuff mentioned above and then disconnect the Mac from any WAN networking, and maybe even LAN stuff if there are some nasty hackers on your local network.

JavaScript is built into your browser and 90+% of websites out there will break if you disable JavaScript in your browser settings. Apart from Java, the other technologies are limited in their system access. As far as Java goes, if you aren't using any applications that need it, by all means uninstall it.

You will, however, not be able to use Netflix on your desktop without Silverlight.

Flash should be removed since Adobe has stopped working on it.

I'm sure I read not very long ago that Silverlight was not really needed to watch Netflix any more but I can't find the source right now, but did find this:

It's also interesting to note that if you have MS Office 2008, 2011, or 2016, Microsoft also includes Silverlight as part of the installation package. Other than Netflix (which can also run with HTML5) I have no idea what Silverlight is used for.

Just ran across several articles that actually recommend removing Silverlight as it is no longer needed. Apparently, Silverlight was intended to be a plug in similiar to Adobe Flash.

That's excellent news, I just remember needing it a while back when I was playing Netflix videos. Sliverlight was Microsoft's answer to Flash, but never really took hold like Flash did.

Flash is to be end of lifed in 2020, can't do it sooner since it's used by so many sites out there. This gives developers enough time to transition videos to HTML5 and other technologies for what they use Flash currently for. This blog post from Adobe explains more.

tracking is nearly impossible to stop. I'm more worried about unpatched software that I don't need. flash and java mostly. Javascript I'm stuck with since most sites wont work without it.

Last time I watched a video on Netflix it demanded Silverlight and that it be at the latest version. No alternative was offered. As for Flash, Adobe has announced no further development, but they are still fixing bugs and identified security holes.
