How to move files without dragging and dropping?

It's greyed out as it doesn't apply to files. Try it with text and it won't be greyed out.

By 'true delete key' I'm guessing you mean not having a forward delete key on the Mac keyboard?

You can press Fn+delete to delete forward or cmd+delete to delete a file etc.

Thanks. I suspect I am not the only one who finds these limitations irritating. Not so bad I regret my purchase - yet anyway. But definitely irritating.

There is an easy solution if you have OSX Lion. Copy the file with Cmd+C, navigate to the target folder and hold the Alt/Option key while you paste the file with Cmd+V. Lion will move rather than copy the file.

This works on Mavericks too. thanks Crizzie, been bugging me for ages.

Crizzle has it right. I just use the right click method. Right click and choose Copy, then right click in the location I want and hold down Option when I right click again, and Copy becomes Move.
