I notice that my iMac, which is a 27-inch, Mid 2011 model, has been very warm, even hot to the touch when in operation, especially around the vent at the top of the back panel of the device. The computer seems to be okay otherwise.
The computer's vents are not obstructed in any way, it is set a couple feet away from the wall, and the room is at a reasonable temperature. I have not noticed any unusual fan-related noises. I realize that these computers do heat up substantially, but I wanted to know just how hot it can go before it is indicative of something that requires service. Is there a way to determine this at home or is a visit to an Apple Store the only way to know?
Thanks.
