How can I reset VPN Network configuration w/out reboot??

I set up a VPN Network connection under Settings -> Network and it's working great.

Occasionally however, something goes wrong where I have to disconnect and try to reconnect at which point I get some error about a configuration or something being wrong. This doesn't happen too often, but when it does it's annoying since the only thing I know to do is reboot and then things are fine. I'm sure there is a command line option that can reset things for me without having to reboot?

Thanks for any help (googling for this only helped for the situation using the older standalone CISCO vpn client.)

This seems to be happening quite a bit now since I'm having to use VPN all the time working from home. Any tips on how I could restart the VPN service "when something goes wrong" would be greatly appreciated. I hate having to reboot for something that I know can be restarted from the command line somehow.

Yes, I do see that process running.

I should add that I only see that "racoon" processing running when the vpn is connected.

What if you create a new Network Location and recreate the VPN settings for the new location?

I've tried that and in fact a new Mac user (Coworker) occasionally has the same issue. Since this is BSD or some Unix flavor 'under the hood' I figured there must be some way that you can simply restart that VPN service without rebooting.

The VPN service is not on the client. It is on the server to which you connect.

But I know where you going with that thought.
