Up until I installed High Sierra I did not need to Log In when I started up my Mac. I now have to.

In Security & Privacy I have unchecked both Require a Password and Disable Automatic Log In. File Vault is turned Off.

In Users & Groups I have set myself (Admin) to Automatic Log In and Guest User is turned Off.

I still have to Log In. Am I missing something?

I recommend creating a second “limited” user account, and set up automatic login to that account.

Thanks for your reply.

Your recommendation is certainly an option but surely I should be able to set myself up as an administrator with automatic logging in.

........or are Apple making it difficult/impossible to maintain security?

Edit

After a bit more investigation I found that, to make it work, you have to turn off Automatic Log In then turn it on again and apply your user ID. Now it works:))

The old remedy - switch it off and back on again!
