okay, so im not sure if this is a problem with my OS, but it seems logical since OS X Lion is rather new, and thats what I have.

I was trying to install a mod for Minecraft (If this is at all relevant) and i needed to open a .jar file with Archive Utility. On the youtube videos, every time you do that, it's supposed to create a folder. But when I open the .jar with Archive Utility, it creates a compressed file with a ".jar.cpgz" extension. When I open that, it just recreates the .jar file. I need that folder to install the mod. I figured that this might be a problem with OS X Lion because all the videos are filmed prior to Lion coming out, and I've had other problems with Lion before (it had hidden my Library folder, which was supposed to be found under my User####). Is there any way to fix this so that Archive Utility will create folders instead of .jar.cpgz's?

How are you attempting to open the *.jar file? You said archive utility, what archive utility? A *.jar file is a JAVA archive or zipped JAVA file which you should be able to open with any unzip utility. It sounds like you're trying to further archive the file rather than open it. It's not a problem with Lion.

Just try double clicking on the file to see what happens.....

And, please don't post a question with the title "Help". Some folks will ignore a post they see with that title. When posting, be as descriptive as you can.

For example: "Help with opening a .jar file needed".

i tried opening it by double clicking and it tells me that it can't open the file. and the archive utility is Archive Utility 10.7. im not sure if im trying to open it or archive it further, but i need it to create a folder somehow. the only other program i have as an option to open it is Jar Launcher 14.0.3, which doesn't do anything. so yeah..

and my bad, im not used to posting stuff in forums :p
