Help! Water damage to hard drive

I am hoping someone can help. My MacBook Pro is in for repair/retrieval of data after an unfortunate water spill on my laptop. The guys at the Mac repair shop here say they can't retrieve any data off my drive. I am panicking as I had no backup on my photos ( ridiculous! I know) but I am wondering if it's worth sending it off elsewhere for an attempt by someone else...or if this is it. Can anyone give me a recommendation? I am obviously desperate - several years of photos

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to say but w/o a backup, your photos have likely gone to 'cyber heaven' -

Not sure 'what' your Mac repair people are trying, but there is data recovery software and services (just google those terms) - the software can be expensive but often there is a 'free trial' that might show if your data is there and can be retrieved, then you usually have to purchase the software.

Data recovery services can be really expensive, so you'll need to balance how important these images were to you vs. the cost of trying a recovery service - I don't have a specific recommendation but the google hits might help. Good luck - Dave
