HELP PLEASE! My Mac seems to have deleted my files?!!?!

HELP!!! Anyone out there who knows how I can find my files again?

Id just downloaded some fonts from dafont on to a pc (as my mac is not connected to the internet atm) and I transferred them onto a usb pen, and unzipped them onto my mac and transferred them into my font folder.. I closed all my windows on my mac and restarted it.. But when it opened again my whole desktop was cleared and none of my files seems to be anywhere.. my whole life is on this mac. Can someone please help me.. what can I do?

I have a MAC OS X 10.4.11 Macbook Pro and its only a few months old

sounds like the font files are a red herring.

what else could you possibly have done?
did you rename your home folder maybe? any other changes you can think of - since your previous restart?
