Help! I/O Errors

So for the last few days I've been trying to make a bootable backup of my hard drive using Super Duper, Carbon Cloner and Chrono Sync. All have failed. I also can't run a Time Machine backup either, it fails too. All seem to indicate problems reading certain files.

Chrono Sync's logs show 103 errors all of a "General I/O" nature - please see below....

Disk Repair just runs and then reports the disk as being ok, so it's not fixing this issue. Do you think this is fixable? Any idea what the problem is? The hard drive is solid state, so a bit pricey to replace... Do you think a clean install would fix this? Sorry for all the questions...

Thanks for coming back to me... so:
It's a 2012 Macbook Air

I've tried:
Booting into recovery and running disk utility to repair the mac
Running disk utility repair from a seperate installer disk.
Running safe mode and from there attempting to backup - still failed
Upgrading the Mac from Lion to Sierra - still unable to complete a backup and getting these I/O errors

And as mentioned have tried various backup tools (Super Duper, Carbon Copy Cloner, Time Machine). All failed to complete a full backup. I've now just managed to backup the most important file folders by manually copying each one.

I am now contemplating doing a clean install of Sierra by totally wiping the hard drive.

Go ahead and try that. Make sure you have whatever data you can't afford to lose backed up. Disk Utility may be telling you the drive is OK when it's not. It's possible that the drive will have to be replaced. I/O errors are almost always due to corruption and that could mean the drive is causing it.

Thanks I'm in the process of trying this now. So far it looks ok. Just tried to carbon clone my fairly Vanilla OS X Sierra (clean install with just a couple of programs added) and Carbon Clone was able to complete the clone without any issues. Adding back my files now, so will re-test again later when done...
