Hi,

I am new here and this is my first post (hope it's in the right place)

I am a clothing/graphic designer and use Macs for work - adobe illustrator etc but don't really have any knowledge of operating systems and technical stuff. I've always had windows laptops at home.

My husband ordered a MacBook for me the other day as a surprise as my laptop is so old and not really working. We've not long had a little girl and have just moved house so don't have the money for a new one. He ordered this on wowcher...

But from what I can tell this will be unable to run a OS that is still supported by apple, I probably wouldn't be able to run illustrator and photoshop on it and we won't be able to use it with our iPhones which are up to date with the latest software. Is this correct? We can return it. Is it not worth having?

There are a few deals on there. I thought this might be a better option for what we want it for - me to use for design work, using with our phones, internet and what not...

To me this looks like. Much better deal for only £20 more the OS is only one version behind from what I understand.

However only 3 people have purchased this deal whereas 140 people have purchased the other one. It has the most purchases of all the mac deals in there.

Please can someone help. Should we stick with the first MacBook or return it for the other deal? I don't want to be at a security risk.

Thanks so much for reading

By the way. I could see the title for the computer in the first link (behind a popup message for the site). It say's "13" Core Duo Apple MacBook 80gig". Don't just walk away from this deal...RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. This computer is very very old (11 years). Not only is it NOT capable of running the latest Mac OS...it's not capable of running the last SIX Mac OS versions!!!

Oh sorry for posting the links.

Here's the spec for the one I think we should return:

£159
Processor type: Intel Core Duo
Processor speed: 2.1GHz
RAM size: 2GB
Hard drive size: 80GB
Hard drive type: SATA
Optical drive: 8 X ComboDrive
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (this is the latest OS X this model will support)
Card reader: N/A
Display type: TFT
Display size: 13.3"
Display resolution: 1280 x 800 widescreen
Graphics memory: N/Ali>
Ports: USB 2.0 x 2, Firewire x 1
Webcam: Integrated
Wired networking: Ethernet
Wireless networking: WLAN 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth
Three-month warranty

Here's the spec for the one I think will be better:

£179
Model: Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2Ghz 13" (White-09)
Processor: 4Intel "Core 2 Duo” 2GHZ "Penryn” processor, two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip
RAM: 2GB or 4GB
HDD: 120GB
Graphics: Intel GMA X3100
Optical: 8X/24X DVD/CD-RW "Combo" drive
OSX: OS 10.11 El Capitan
Connectivity: Bluetooth and WiFi

It's just confused me that 140 people have purchased he first deal and only 3 the second deal.

Thanks so much for your help

Neither of those machines should even be considered. Both are very old and can not run any of the later versions of Mac OS X. The second machine can only support OS X Lion (10.7.5) as the latest version it can run. They are outdated and vintage Macs which not even Apple will service any longer. Save your money and buy something more modern that will last for several years. I know that your finances may not support the kind of Mac you want, but you would just be throwing away good money on either of the machines you mentioned above.

Thanks a bunch. Listing the spec info helps a lot.:)

Yes...the flrst computer is what I was referring to in my earlier post. Run...don't walk from this one. Very very old & limited (it's a 2006 model).

Regarding deal #2. It is described incorrectly. It is NOT a 2009 MacBook (as mentioned in the parentheses) it's actually a 2007 model. It is only slightly better than the MacBook in deal #1. It is limited to OS 10.7.5. The current Mac OS version is OS 10.12 (5 versions newer). I would also recommend not purchasing this one either.

Sorry for the less than positive info. Trying to save you money & disappointment later.:)

Actually I got straight into the product details without providing any details at all. And I've never been on this site before. Just saying.

Maybe you got there differently. The links the OP originally provided required (due to a Pop Up) personal info to enter the webppage that was linked.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything less than this:
Refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel i5
Originally released June 2012
13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1280-by-800 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 4000
AU $829.00

The late 2011 model is good too but they are very few and far between. The above was Apple Refurbished. As you can see they are not cheap but I doubt you will find one worth having (for your graphic needs) for much less.
