Yeah...good question...what were you doing prior to all the windows opening?

For me, I had accidentally selected all of the Files in the finder window... then double clicked... I just watch in panic as the dock started bouncing all over, and window after window began to open.

Below is NOT mine.. but it is a WHOLE LOT of open items...

Used to be able to get screen savers that looked like that, sorta. The screen would fracture and melt, or chunks would break off and move around.

I have seen 3D Desktop JIGSAW Screensaver that is similar to what you describe.
