Heat spreaders cMP 5,1 - yes or no?

I will be picking up a cMP 5,1 - 3.2 quad core with 4x2g ram and I have a line on 3x8g 1066 ddr3 ECC ram but they don't have heat spreaders on them. Are the spreaders on the 2g transferable to the 8g or not. I have read in the past that heat spreaders aren't really needed now, is that correct?

I currently have a:

* Mac Pro 1,1
* Mac Pro 3,1
* In the past have had a Mac Pro 4,1
* Currently have a Mac Pro 5,1

Only the 2006-2008 Mac Pro's (1,1 thru 3,1) had the RAM with the heat sinks on them. Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 RAM don't have these.

I also physically checked my Mac Pro 5,1...and no heat sinks on the RAM.

Interesting. I had a 1,1, no heatsinks (came that way) and I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in pals mac pros. I didn’t know they were a thing? I do miss having a tower. I’d get one but I’m not sure what I’d really do with it at this point.

I've seen that as well Groovetube. Probably one of those super-technical things that in a perfect world a user should have...but if the Mac Pro didn't have them...it may do perfectly fine.

I always wanted the best stability...so I always tried to use the RAM for these early Mac Pro's with the heatsinks just in case it did help.

Had I known I’d have them maybe it’s because I didn’t have a lot of ram (I recall 32gigs) but seems like a good idea. Though I always thought the mac pros did have really good air flow.

They have good air flow as long as you keep the side panel on lol, I sometimes forget to put it back on - constantly pulling and moving drives.
