Is there a newer version of Office 365 available for the Mac? Just because a 2013 version exists for Windows computers…doesn't necessarily mean there's a newer version for Mac's (unless Office 365 works differently than Office versions of the past).

The easy answer is…check the Microsoft website…and see what is available & what the system requirements are.

So i can have users that have PC's on 2013 and users that have Macs on 2011? I thought once you have Office 365 you can download the latest into the machine because dont they have 2013 for Mac yet?

Also if i cannot upgrade the Macs shouldnt all the Mac users still be able to check their emails online using the microsoft online 365 portal and be able to use the OneDrive for business?

In the past it was not uncommon for Windows users and Mac users to be on different versions of Office. In fact…it was more uncommon for both platforms to be on the same version. Many times Microsoft does not release the same version for both platforms. But Office 365 may be different.

The Microsoft website is probably the best place to confirm details regarding Office 365. Check it out.:)

Yes - you can have both 2013 for PC and 2011 for Mac (basically you don't have a choice)

Yes - latest version for Mac is 2011 (that is the reason you can download only 2011 for Mac)

Yes to both - office online is not dependable on installed version (you can use office online even on computer which doesn't have office installed)

Ok so even though they have 2013 for Mac's or its not out yet because i thought it would be automatically given to you if you are running Office 365 on server?

I do know you can do it to have both especially if you dont have a choice..but up to this point i have only downloaded the software into the PC's and never used it the suite online except check emails but not to use the suite.

Is there a section that you go into to use the suite online or is it automatic when you log into the micosoft online portal

When you log in to your 365 account, there should be a download link to the current Mac version which, as of right now, is 2011. I'd give you more direct options but I'm on a Windows box right now and I don't see the Mac option (which should be obvious when you login).

Office online is easily accessible when you log in in your OneDrive page in web browser.
You can select application you need from list which will appear when you click down arrow next to OneDrive link in upper left corner.

As for installation you are right - Office 365 subscription gives you possibility to use latest versions of office suite for specific platform.

Please keep in mind - Office 2011 is newest suite for Mac (there is no 2013 or any other version)

As soon as new version becomes available you will be able to select it in Office administration section. (office.microsoft.com)

Hope this helps.

Ok i logged into the web portal on a PC and if you click on Office 365 in the far left it brings up the applications you can use ok cool...So as soon as 2013 comes out you are saying Office 365 should allow you to upgrade your Macs as well?

I'm not sure why you are ignoring my advice to visit the Microsoft website for all or most of this info. Microsoft is the expert on this after all.:)

Second. I don't think that Microsoft is going to release Office 2013 for Macintosh computers if we are currently in 2014;) The next release of Office 365 for Mac's will at least be a 2014 version...and if not 2014...then 2015.

Nick is right. According to Microsoft, the next release of Mac Office will be "2014". And if you already paid for a 365 subscription you will be able to download it to your Mac.

Good article here at 9 to 5 Mac.

It's an old article but I'm hoping that MS hasn't changed their tune. Office 2011 is fine but it desperately needs a refresh. The current incarnation of the ribbon needs some updating (I expect it to look like OneNote on the Mac which is significantly better).

I do want to ask one other thing about this connector that is used on the 2011 for Macs. My question is: What is it really used for? Also has anyone installed it and currently use it?

Are you talking about Microsoft Document Connection? If so, take a look here.
